DuckDose Review: Why They Closed and The Best Alternatives

Modafinil, and its even stronger sibling, Armodafinil, are among the most popular nootropics thanks to their powerful benefits.

They are the pills that most neurohackers would agree come the closest to the “Limitless pill,” thanks to their impressive ability to ameliorate fatigue, elevate cognitive function, and greatly enhance concentration and motivation.

Yet this is one of the smart drugs that is not easily available in the US and many other countries without a doctor’s prescription, which you aren’t likely to get for nootropic purposes.

This is where online vendors step in - with DuckDose being one of very few trusted online vendors for Modafinil and Armodafinil in the US, UK, and Australia.

DuckDose, Trusted Modafinil Supplier, Closes its Doors

After two years of operation, DuckDose closed its doors in April 2018. If you have been in the Modafinil or even nootropics game for long, you likely have come to accept the likelihood of the closure of your vendor of choice. Just last year, ModUp, ModafinilCat, and Powder City all closed their doors.

Even so, whenever one closes down there are natural questions to ask, such as why they closed, and who the best alternatives are? Fortunately, there are other reputable sources of Modafinil and Armodafinil online that will ship to most countries around the world.

Who Was DuckDose?

DuckDose opened its doors in 2016, and over the following two years, set a high standard for product quality and customer service when it came to online Modafinil vendors. Reddit was full of users who were very happy with DuckDose, such as this user, who had a package lost in the mail and was quickly resent another package without any questions asked.

DuckDose was known to have top notch customer service, and their prices were very competitive. They sourced generic Modafinil pills from Sun Pharma and HAB Pharma, both of whom are located in India. They carried four products:

  • Sun Pharma Modafinil aka Modalert
  • Sun Pharma Armodafinil aka Waklert
  • HAB Pharma Modafinil aka Modvigil
  • HAB Pharma Armodafinil aka Artvigil

Their website was easy to use and full of useful information, including a blog packed full of articles from sources such as Scientific America to help their customers fully understand the ins-and-outs of Modafinil.

What Happened to DuckDose?

The closure of DuckDose was abrupt and unexpected. On their website you were greeted with the following message:

Duckdose is shutting down. It has been an amazing journey, and we are very fortunate to have been able to serve you. We’ve not been hacked. All of your information is secure. This closure is one on our own terms. While it’s been an exciting experience, the ducks have come to a stage of life where we have other commitments to pursue.

So why, then, did they shut down?

They claim that those who owned the company were ready to move on to other things, however there is always a chance that they were shut down and did not want to disclose this to their customers.

If they did indeed come across problems that made them shut down, you may be wondering what these could be. Unfortunately, there are many reasons why nootropic suppliers close their doors, particularly those providing Modafinil and Armodafinil.

Difficulties Delivering Packages

When shipping nootropics across the world to countries where they are not 100% legal, companies can run into many problems.

The first is the product being seized at the border, never making it to the customer. DuckDose had a policy where they would reship anything that was seized at the border for free. By shipping to countries like the US and Australia where Modafinil is only legal with a prescription, it is possible that this policy ended up costing them more than they were hoping for.

As they initially started out with no shipping fee and increased that to $18, it does appear that shipping costs were greater than they had initially thought. That said, it is a very small percentage of mail that is seized when it comes across borders, so this was likely to be a small financial impact.

Payments - Credit Card Processing Companies Do Not Like Nootropics Vendors

Thanks to the grey area when it comes to the legality of selling these drugs online in countries where they are only available with a prescription, banks and credit card companies do not like to work with these businesses.

Overseas drug retailers are risky for credit card companies, which is why companies like Mastercard and Visa are part of the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies (CSIP). CSIP will only allow their members to cover a pharmaceutical sales company if they are based out of the USA. Thanks to the major credit card companies not covering medication vendors outside of the US, maintaining CC processing accounts can be pricey for companies like DuckDose.

This can be seen in how most Modafinil suppliers offer a pretty steep discount when you purchase using Bitcoin, and DuckDose was no exception. They too offered a discount when using Bitcoin rather than credit cards to make a purchase.

It is theoretically possible that costs such as these led to a need to close their doors.

So Why Did They Close?

Even months after their closure, the exact reason why DuckDose closed remains a mystery. It may have been a choice to shut down the business, or they could have run into legal or financial troubles that are common for Modafinil and other online nootropics vendors.

Are Existing DuckDose Sites Online a Scam?

You may notice that, while DuckDose.org is no longer in existence, DuckDose.net is. This site popped up and is using the credible DuckDose name to try and sell Modafinil and Armodafinil online.

This site is one that is best to be avoided. While they have a very minimal website that includes some information on Modafinil and a way to purchase, that is about where it ends. There are grammatical errors and missing pages that are typical of ecommerce stores, such as a privacy policy and terms of service.

Fortunately, there are other, more credible online Modafinil vendors that you can turn to now that DuckDose has closed.

DuckDose Alternatives

While the closing of DuckDose was a blow to many loyal neurohackers, it should in no way limit your ability to purchase quality Modafinil and Armodafinil at competitive prices from online vendors.

If you do a Google search for online Modafinil vendors, you will find an almost endless supply. When it comes to purchasing this and other nootropics online, it is critical to be careful and only go through trusted vendors.

Many of the options available online do not provide the product that they promise, and some of these companies are not trusted to do business with. You do not want to give out your credit card information to just anyone with a website online.

As it stands in 2018, there are two online Modafinil vendors that we trust with our business: Afinil Express and Modafinil Star.

Afinil Express

Afinil Express is a respected nootropics vendor who carries all of the same products as DuckDose did before they closed. When ModafinilCat closed last year, they “passed the baton” to Afinil Express, and later stated that they were “the second best Modafinil vendor in the world.” If you ever used ModafinilCat, the recommendation by this trusted vendor may be just what you need to feel confident purchasing from Afinil Express.

They offer free shipping and accept MasterCard, Visa, or Bitcoin, and offer 20% off of your order if you use Bitcoins or Altcoins. They offer anywhere from 20-300 pills, with steep discounts when you purchase in bulk. They even offer a sample pack where you can try 10 of all four products for just $75.

Modafinil Star

Modafinil Star is another trusted Modafinil supplier that carrier the same four products as DuckDose carried, plus Modafinil MD by INTAS. They too offer free shipping and 20% off if you use Bitcoin or Altcoins, and also accept certain gift cards and Echecks.

Their prices start as low as $0.89/pill, and you can purchase anywhere from 60 to 300 pills, with discounts for buying in bulk. You will find a sample pack with 10 of each of their five products for $80.

Final Thoughts

As it goes with Modafinil vendors and other nootropics vendors online, the best players in the game are ever changing. Whether their closure really was thanks to “other commitments” that the owners wanted to pursue, or whether they ran into financial or legal difficulties, will remain a question without definite answers.

While the closure of one of the most highly regarded Modafinil vendors is a disappointment, there already exist two other trusted online retailers to go to: Modafinil Star and Afinil Express. Both of these vendors offer the same products that were sold by DuckDose, with Modafinil Star even offering one other option for Modafinil.
